Of Jackson, Michigan passed away on December 5, 2018 at the age of 96. Pete was born on September 23, 1922 to parents Nick and Mary Penoff. Pete owned Balkan Grocery and Hardware for 52 years. He was a proud World War II veteran, serving in four battles during the War. He loved to travel, was an avid sports fan, and loved visiting New Orleans. Everyone was Pete’s friend and anyone who knew him said that knowing him made life better. Pete is survived by his niece, Patricia (Clark) Ross-Smith; nephew, Michael Ross; and lifelong friends, Paul McGee, Gary Nichols, Andy Fries, and Gary Cooper. He was preceded in death by his parents. Per his wishes, he will be buried with military honors on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 11:00 am at Hillcrest Memorial Park-Oak Chapel. He will be laid to rest next to his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 29, 3200 Lansing Avenue, Jackson, MI 49202 or your local VFW Post.
