House peacefully surrounded by family. Dan was born February 8th, 1964, in Ames, to Jerry and
Audrey Carney. He graduated from Ames High School in 1982. After school Dan began a lifelong
career as a salesman, first working for his father Jerry at Jerry Carney and Son’s Auto Salvage in
Ames, Iowa and eventually working for Wilson Toyota of Ames. Dan lived the majority of his life
in the Ames area and is survived by three children, Jack, Lesli, and Maggi; and brothers, Matt,
Tom, and Tim; and sisters, Peg Oshel, Mary Carney, and Molly Anderson.
Dan enjoyed his workplace and the friendships he developed there. He loved his community in
Ames and found it was the place that made him most happy. His faith and adornment of his
family is what drove him through everyday life. He loved the outdoors, hunting with family and
friends. He was an avid Iowa State and Notre Dame football fan. Dan loved his animals including
multiple dogs and Canadian Geese, and his favorite hobby learning about all things American
History. His family enjoys memories of late night risk games, his great sense of humor, and
being introduced to unusual foods. He was an avid reader, a lover of Irish heritage, and held
family values close to his heart. Dan will be remembered for his pleasant demeanor and
infectious personality in which will never be forgotten by all that had met him.
Dan’s visitation and Mass of Remembrance will be held at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic
Church in Ames with Father Kyle Digmann on Tuesday December 11th. The rosary will begin at
9:30am, the visitation at 10:00am, and Mass at 11am with lunch to follow in the lower level of
the church. A private family burial will take place. In lieu of flowers please consider sending
donations in Dan Carney’s name to Israel Hospice House and/or Youth and Shelter Services of
Ames.
