HILL, FLOYD DANIEL; departed this life on December 26, 2018, peacefully and surrounded by his loved ones; he was 70. Born in Dallas Texas, he was the son of Dorothy May Hill and the late Andrew Jack Hill, both longtime residents of Dallas County. At the time of his death he resided in Redding, CA where he was known to many as Dan. Dan grew up in Irving, TX during the 1950s and ‘60s and—in his opinion—nobody had a happier childhood or a better place to live. He attended Irving High School where he played football, baseball, basketball and golf. In May of 1967, Dan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and his leadership skills ensured a rapid promotion to Gunnery Sargent. Over his tenure, he was awarded the Purple Heart and many other honors of distinction for his service. He proudly served his country in war until numerous injuries resulted in an honorable retirement from the USMC in 1969. Dan married his wartime pen pal, Sandra Patton (Silva) in late 1969 and they soon started their family in 1972. After divorce in 1978, he made it his personal mission to help people with substance abuse addiction. In 1983, he met his beloved and devoted companion Cym Ross—and they predominately stayed in Redding CA. Dan most enjoyed spending time with his family, storytelling, fishing, watching sports, traveling domestically and books/movies. Dan is survived by his loving mother, Dorothy Hill of Atlanta, Texas; beloved companion, Cym Ross of Redding, CA; he was the best of fathers to sons Joshua (Jackie) Hill, Roseville CA, Derek (Monica) Hill, Chico CA, and Adam (Erin) Hill of Carmel Valley CA; Dan will also be missed by his brothers Kenneth Hill, Salmon ID, Andy (Huan) Hill and Jim (Terri) Hill, both of Atlanta TX and sister Linda Bush of Stephenville, Texas; he was the loving grandfather of Sophia and Michael Hill, Harrison and Calvin Hill, Michelangelo L Ramsey and the great grandfather of Elijah L Ramsey. Dan leaves behind many friends, unforgettable stories and treasured memories filled with laughter and love and absolutely no regrets. Cremation has taken place by McDonald's Dignity Chapel and a celebration of life gathering will be held at Sierra View Country Club in Roseville CA on February 16th. All through 2019, the family asks that you think of your neighbors in need and contribute what you can to the Camp Fire survivors or any local food bank.
