Charles Gordon Miller, 80, of Conover, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at his residence. Born March 26, 1938 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, Charles was the son of John H. Miller and Hilda R. Miller.
Charles was known for his energetic spirit, intense love for family, and strong opinion. Most of his latter days were spent going to “the cabin” with the boys, and travelling around the country to ride his horse, Doc. He was a proud member of the North Carolina Backcountry Horsemen.
When he wasn’t reminiscing with family and friends, you could find Charles in the driveway, washing his truck. He was always known for being a hard worker.
After high school, Charles served four years in the Navy and was stationed in Florida. After 26 years of working at Gaines Motor Lines, he “retired” and committed the next 20 years to JK Landscaping, driving a dump truck.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Sylvia Miller; brother, John H. Miller Jr.; brother-in-law, Kenny Kidwiler; and his horse, Doc.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Charles Miller, Jr. and his wife, Cindy, Doug Miller and his wife, Debbie; daughter, Jackie Miller and her husband, Kevin; his brother, Bill Miller and his wife, Brenda; sister, Carolyn Kidwiler; five grandchildren, Jonathan Presnell and his wife, Glenny, Jordan Johnson and his wife, Rebecca, Justin Miller and fiancée, Shelby, Katie Logan and her husband, Brewer, Jennifer Green and her husband, Nate; four great-grandchildren, Noah Johnson, Landon Johnson, Ryleigh Presnell, and Jackson Miller; three bonus great-grandchildren, Robinson, Rachelle, and Ryan; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Charles will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Conover on Tuesday, January, 8, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. with the Rev. Scott Johnson and Rev. Anton Lagoutine officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
