Longmont, Colorado due to heart complications. He was born on August 19th, 1958 to
Alfonso and Arlene (Palmer) Harris. He was eldest of three boys and the protector of all of
his younger family members while growing up in Frederick, Maryland. He and his family
made Colorado their home in 1978.
Dion enjoyed playing sports including football in his youth and was a part of
a Longmont softball league for many years as an adult. He was active in his community helping with local elections, canvassing and registering voters. He was previously
married to Leann Illig and remained close friends with her and her family over the years. He
worked at IBM for over 20 years and made countless friends there. In fact, Dion made
friends everywhere he went and it's easy to understand why.
Dion always looked for an opportunity to help anyone he crossed paths with. He was
supportive and loving, often putting others needs before his own. He had a warm, loving smile that was unforgettable. Though he was always ready to share a laugh with you he was also content to just to sit and enjoy the moment.
Dion’s mother Arlene was the light of his life and they not only had an unbreakable mother and son bond, but they were undeniably best friends. Dion was an incredibly loving and caring Uncle to his nieces and nephews, and adored each and every one of them. He had many friends who he shared deep bonds with. If you were his friend he considered you family and he quickly became “Uncle D” to just about every person he met.
Dion lived a full life in his short 60 years and is survived by his mother Arlene, his two
brothers Alfonso and Wayland, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his
father Alfonso Sr. in 2010. Dion leaves behind a legacy of laughter and love. He will be
greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The following arrangements have been made at Howe Mortuary (439 Coffman St,
Longmont, CO), viewing on Jan. 8th from 5 - 7pm followed by the funeral on Jan. 9th at 1 pm.
