Mary I. Kessler, age 73 of Ogdensburg and formerly of Colorado died Thursday (Jan 31, 2019) at the St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Ogdensburg following complications from a stroke she suffered a few days prior. There will be a memorial service at a later date to be announced.
Surviving are her sons Jack Kessler & his wife Toni Rice of Federal Way, WA; Michael Kessler of Minneapolis, MN and Frederick Kessler & his wife Isabelle of Westminster, CO; two sisters Katherine Denny of Ogdensburg and Marion Morelli of Corwall, NY; three grandchildren Christopher Kessler of Denver, CO and William & David Kessler of Westminster, CO; along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.
Three sisters Elsie Devine, Margaret Mally & Hazel Monaco predeceased her.
Mary was born on April 22, 1945 in Ogdensburg NY, a daughter of the late Fred & Alice (Mally) Boothe. She graduated from Herman-Dekalb Central High School and years later, continued her education at Pueblo Community College where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Early Childhood Education.
Mary spent her later life as an elder care provider, and then became a nanny for a family in Colorado for many years. She retired in 2007 and moved to Ogdensburg to be with her sister Kay. Mary was active with the local Catholic churches and a dedicated volunteer at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home and Our Ladies’ Outreach (formerly St. Vincent DePaul Society). She was a dedicated grandmother, sister, and loving friend (especially to her friends from her youth who she continued a close relationship up to her passing). She loved her dog Duchess and was devoted to helping others.
