Velma was born to Orley Gleason Modert and Ruth Ellen (Westcott) Modert in Mt. Vernon, Illinois on October 19,1919.
She married her high school sweet heart, William Roscoe McCoy on October 4, 1941; a marriage that lasted until Roscoe's passing in 1997.
After living in various parts of Illinois, Kentucky and Texas, in 1958 the family settled in Pasadena, Texas.
She is survived by all 3 of her children; William Richard McCoy and wife Paula, Kenneth Neal McCoy and wife Linda, and Connie Sue Bell and husband Clarence. She also enjoyed 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Velma worked as an executive secretary for the various plant managers at Lubrizol Corporation for over 25 years. She was active in her church, South Avenue Baptist Church in Pasadena, all the years her health permitted. In her later years, the macular degeneration did not permit her to drive. She finished her very full life at Arbor Terrace (even surviving the Harvey evacuation in 2017) in Kingwood and Plantation Assisted Living in Porter.
The family sincerely appreciates the special loving care she received at both facilities.
Velma was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was loved, is missed and will always be cherished.
