Richard Dale "Dick" Wilkes, of Longmont, passed away at his home on February 6, 2019. He was 87 years old. Dick was born to Lyman and Mabel Wilkes at home in a farmhouse in Eastern Colorado near Matheson during the Dust Bowl and The Depression in July, 1931.
Dick grew up on different farms and moved to Rinn, Colorado at age six. He started school at Idaho Creek School. Dick moved to Longmont in 1938 where he attended grade school at Lincoln and Central. He also attended Junior High in Longmont and was a 1949 graduate of Longmont High Schoool. In 1950, he married, Joyce Bartholomew. He fathered three children, Alan, Connie and Sue. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings. Throughout his life, Dick worked as a printer, filling station manager and the Boulder Daily Camera where he retired in 1992 after 33 years.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.
