John P. Holic, 86 of Fleming Island, FL went home to be with the Lord on February 6, 2019 after a battle with cancer. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in the late fifties at Beaver Street Baptist Church under Pastor George Hodges. He was in the church bus ministry, as well as other ministries, after the church was renamed to Jacksonville Baptist Temple. He was born on Long Island, NY; inducted into the Navy with duty at NAS Jacksonville. After his service he transferred from NY Telephone Company to Southern Bell/Bellsouth where he retired after 40 years. He also spent 18 years in the Navy/Navy Reserves as a Seabee and Recruiter having to get out due to a serious auto accident. Surviving him are his wife Shirley, to whom he was married 61 years, his daughter Paula Renee’ Holic and son Chris Holic. He is also survived by three grandsons Logan Judd, Chase Boyett and Evan Holic. Celebration of Life will be handled by Hardage Giddens Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205 on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at 12pm with visitation one hour prior to service. Interment will be at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32218 at 2:30pm. Pallbearers are grandsons Logan Judd and Chase Boyett, nephews Greg Thompson, Terry Thompson, Jerry Thompson and friend John Hughes. Tim McDaniel, D. Min of Community Hospice will officiate. The family would like to thank Community Hospice of Northeast Florida for their wonderful at home care of John.
