Lydia Huitt Vaughn, follower of Christ, died after a short illness on March 4, 2019. Lydia was the fourth of six children, born February 5, 1953 to Guilford and Betty Huitt. Lydia grew up in Mt Holly, NC. In 1971, she married her lifelong husband, Gerald Vaughn, of Iva, SC. The two settled in Charlotte with their first child after Gerald left the Air Force.
Lydia would boldly proclaim to each of us along with Paul, “I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” Romans 1:16
Lydia loved her two children, Tiffany Vaughn Brent and Johnathan Christopher Houston Vaughn, but the sparkle of her eye were her two granddaughters, Sarah Lydia Brent and Izabella Marie Vaughn. Her love for her granddaughters knew no bounds.
Lydia spent her life in service to her Savior and His church from an early age. She and her husband have faithfully attended Hickory Grove Baptist Church since 1991. Lydia found places to serve the church from working as an adult Sunday School teacher, youth small group leader, and VBS teacher to caring for others as a deacon’s wife. Lydia took two mission trips to China but she found her true passion working with preschool children teaching the stories of the Bible. Her heart loved each little one who called her “Mrs. Lydia”
Lydia is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gerald Vaughn; her two children and their spouses, Tiffany V Brent and Bill (Concord) and Johnathan and Brittany Vaughn (Locust); her two granddaughters, Sarah Brent and Izabella Vaughn (7). She is survived by three of her siblings and their spouses, Danny & MaryAnn Huitt (Boone), Barry & Teresa Triplett, and Larry Israel & Angela Marie (Santa Cruz); along with many loving nephews, nieces, and their children.
