Asa proudly served his country in the Korean Conflict as a Marine. He was so dedicated to his country and fellow veterans that he often volunteered his time in several programs that benefited those who served.
Those left to cherish Asa's memory are his three children, Brenda Smith, Donna Boykin and her husband, Dale, and James Stewart and his wife, Charlotte; nine grandchildren, Aaron, Alicia and her husband, Dave, Matthew, Kristen and her husband, Ryan, Sandi and her husband, Chad, Richard and his wife, Alexis, Zachary and wife, Reid, Ashley, and Hunter; nine great grandchildren, Trevor and his wife, Doris, Ella Rose, Landon, Carson, Hudson, Beau, Arya, Andy, and Iris.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Aline Godeaux Stewart; his son-in-law, N. Dean Smith; his parents, Elmer Asa and Gladys Cochran Stewart; and a baby sister, Doris Stewart.
The family requests a time of visitation and remembrance be observed on Monday, April 1, 2019 at 9:30am until time of services at 12:30pm at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City. Following services, military honors will be rendered in the Morgan City Cemetery by the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad. Monsignor Douglas Courville will officiate the services.
The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia for their care of Asa during the past few weeks.
