Born on December 24, 1930, to Herbert and Elizabeth (Wilson) Smith in Buffalo, New York, passed away on April 10, 2019, in Williamston, Michigan. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, Wayne; sister Ellen Blair; brothers-in-law, Ernest Blair and William Prin; brother, John Smith; and daughter-in-law, Linda Chelf. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Waugh; sons, Kevin Chelf, Jody (Anita) Chelf, Dan (Melissa) Chelf; eight grandchildren, Karen, Justin, Jessie, Alex, Angela, Ellen, Jane, and Henry; 11 great-grandchildren, Kadan, Danika, Clara, Dean, Emma, Flora, Jack, Reece, Isobel, Jessica, and Caleb; sister, Betty Prin; brother, Herbert Smith; sisters-in-law, Sharon Smith and Karlene Chelf.
Dorothy and Wayne were married in Angola, Indiana, on February 24, 1951. They made their home in Dansville, Michigan, where they lived nearly all their married life. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker. She loved family gatherings, especially spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, home decorating, and being involved in school and community activities. She loved her church family at Vantown Community Church where she worshiped and served as long as she was able.
Dorothy passed away peacefully at Haven of Rest in Williamston, where she had been lovingly cared for during the past two years.
Visitation will be held at Gorsline-Runciman funeral home in Mason on April 15th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A Memorial service will be held June 1st at 11AM at Vantown Community Church in Webberville. Those desiring may make contributions to Vantown Community Church or Beekman Center in Lansing.
