He was born to Burton Magart and Edna Hilby on January 4, 1924, in Sharon, Washington. Delbert lived in the South Moran area until 1937 when he moved to Spokane Valley. He graduated from West Valley High School in 1942, and went to work at the local paper mill in Millwood. Delbert was drafted into the US Army in 1943. He served until December of 1945 as a Military Policeman. Delbert guarded German prisoners of war in Germany and was later transferred back to guard prisoners in the Louisiana area. He met Flora Belle Savoie at a U.S.O. dance in Opelousas, Louisiana. They married on June 15, 1947, at Flora’s home. They moved back to Spokane and Delbert went back to work at the paper mill. Later they moved to Louisiana where Delbert worked for Allied Chemicals until his retirement. Upon retirement they moved back to Spokane. Service will be held at Hazen and Jaeger on May 18, 2019, at 11:00 am and he will be inurned at the Moran Prairie Cemetery.
