Bob played football for Moulton High School where he graduated; he served our country in the U.S. Army and afterwards received a business degree from the University of North Alabama. He retired from State Farm after many years of service and owned and operated a Private Investigator Business for 20 years. He was a member of the Cahaba Valley Elks and the American Legion in Homewood, AL.
Bob enjoyed playing pool and hosting tournaments at his home. He loved woodworking and making things, he built three house boats, lots of various furniture and keepsakes, such as rocky horses and flag cases. He was very inventive and he loved to create new things. He loved life and loved to tell jokes and make others laugh. He was a kind and generous man and was loved by all.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Betty Minor; two children, Ann Newman (Phillip) of Homewood, AL, and Alan W. Helmes (Denise) of Irondale, AL; three grandchildren, Robby Newman (Elise), Amy Atkisson(Deidre) and Becky Brown (Jonathan); five great grandchildren; Ally Brown, Reily Brown, Sam Brown, Ben Newman, and Hazel Newman; several other extended family members and many friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, James Everett Minor and Lucy Craig Minor and one daughter, Susan Morgan.
Celebration of life visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel from 6:00pm until 8:00pm and Friday; May 17, 2019 at 1:00pm; service at 2:00pm followed by his burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens, in Gardendale, AL.
