Oscar was born May 15, 1962, in Harlingen, Texas, to Louis L. and Maria H. Garcia. Oscar was a lifelong athlete and avid outdoorsman.
In high school, he quickly rose to stardom on the football field. They called him, at one point, “The Sophomore Sensation.” It was no different for him on the track as a sprinter and middle-distance runner.
Oscar learned true love by becoming a father to his only daughter Megan Garcia-Dow; she was the love of his life.
Oscar found comfort and joy in daily life spending time outdoors with family and friends. Anyone who joined him on a fishing or a hunting trip was lucky enough to see his passion and light shine through.
Oscar loved his family, and his family loved him unconditionally. His legacy will live on through his strength, selflessness and commitment to his family. He is greatly missed by his daughter Megan Garcia-Dow (Chace), his mother, Maria H. Garcia, his five brothers and sisters, Rebecca Davila, Louis Garcia (Elsa), Cynthia Turner (John), Patricia Espinosa (Marin), David Garcia (Shannyn), and his nieces and nephews. Our family would like to thank all of his friends and loved ones, near and far, who are praying for him.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 24 from 5:00-8:00PM at Forest Park East Funeral Home with a Rosary from 7:30-8:00PM. A Celebration of Oscar’s Life will be held Saturday, May 25 at 3:00PM in the Chapel of Forest Park East.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Foundation for Alcoholism Research at https://alcoholismresearch.org/
