Peacefully, after a brief illness, on Friday, June 14, 2019 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Lois. Loving father of Glenn of Louisville, KY and Diane and her husband Michael Dyck of Winnipeg, MB. Survived by his brother Robert of St. Catharines. Predeceased by his parents John (1989) and Ethel (1983) and his brother James (2016).
Allan was a 40 year employee of H.G. Acres Consulting Engineers and worked in both the Niagara Falls and Winnipeg offices.
Allan loved the outdoors and enjoyed many fishing trips. He was a long time 10 pin bowler, golfer, billiards player, and the odd impromptu chess game could be had at his office desk. An opportunity to move west to Winnipeg proved to be a much loved experience. Curling was the local pastime in Winnipeg which Allan joined in, where he earned the nickname “Boomer” for his hard, strong style carried over from bowling. He was an amateur Egyptologist and was fortunate to make the trip of a lifetime to see the pyramids first-hand. He was a family man and he will be greatly missed.
Thank you to the St. Catharines Hospital nurses and palliative care for their wonderful care and support at this difficult time. Thanks also to Garden City Manor nurses and staff for their dedicated care and making a home for our dad.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 from 10:30 – 11 a.m. at the Hulse & English Funeral Home & Chapel, 75 Church St. St. Catharines. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel at 11 a.m. A Celebration will be held at the funeral home after the service with interment to follow at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or The Alzheimer Society.
