The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2019 at Holy Cross - Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, located at 3021 University Drive, Huntsville, AL 35816, with Father Micah Hirschy of Birmingham, AL officiating. Interment will follow at Huntsville Memory Gardens, 6810 University Dr. NW, Huntsville, AL 35806.
Mr. Mandras was born March 24, 1927 in Kastoria, Greece to the late Demosthenes and Ioulia Mandragonis. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Thanasi; sister, Alexandra Maroulis; and former wife, Mary Mandras.
Mr. Mandras served in the Hellenic Army. Later, he completed training and received certification in Food Service Management. He was manager of the Piedmont Steak House Restaurant in Spartanburg, SC for 30 years.
Mr. Mandras was an avid practitioner of the (largely lost) art of letter writing. He wrote numerous letters to family and loved ones. He enjoyed the company of family and friends, the beautiful outdoors, Greek music and several affectionate canine companions. He was passionate about life, exhibiting a Greek temperament along with genuine kindness and compassion.
Mr. Mandras is survived by his son, Jim (Linda) Mandras, Madison, AL; daughter, Rozalia Pitruzzello, Mobile, AL; sisters, Savoula Tsatsaronis, Agrinio, Greece and Eleni (Kostas) Karris, Charlotte, NC; granddaughter, Victoria Pitruzzello, Mobile, AL; several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made, in Mr. Mandras’ memory, to the Animal Rescue Foundation, Mobile, AL.
