Guenter learned milk and milk products processing in his hometown of Wertheim Germany and then apprenticed under his uncle. He brought those skills and knowledge to the U.S. arriving in the United States on Easter Day 1958, and continued in his specialized field until his retirement from HEB in May 1996.
Surviving Guenter is his wife of 32 years, Evelyn Ireson Braun, his son Michael L Braun of San Antonio, his daughter Arleen Braun Young of Opelika AL, and his stepchildren Pam, Gail, and Rod Hite and their spouses and children.
He enjoyed attending the Houston Ostomy Association Central Group’s meetings and staying connected to other Wertheimers who live in the States by attending the Wertheimers Reunion, which was held every other year in various U.S. cities for 22 years. During their marriage he and Evelyn made numerous trips back to Wertheim to visit with family and friends, attending class reunions and other events there.
A Memorial Service honoring Guenter will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Waltrip Funeral Directors with a reception to follow.
