Donald (Don) Herbert Wanamaker, 80, died July 3, 2019 at Baptist Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida.
Don retired from the United States Postal Service after 32 years of service. As a Florida native, he enjoyed fishing, camping and kayaking. He also enjoyed crafting jewelry, glass blowing, ballroom dancing, clogging, scuba diving and was also a Ham Radio Operator. He was a member of the United States Postal Workers Union, the American Radio Relay League, the North Florida Amateur Radio Society and the American Ballroom Dancing Society. Don was always ready with a helping hand for anyone who was in need.
He is preceded to Eternity by his wife Adeline Rahn Wanamaker, his mother Leona Wanamaker and his father Charles Wanamaker, sisters Janice Rudd and Roberta Hayworth, brother Jacob Wanamaker, James (Jimmy) Caruthers and niece Lynn Colburn. Don is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gabriel and Wendy Wanamaker and his daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Jonathan Watts. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Timothy Holochwost, Rachel Alonzo, Renee Champlin and Corey Amos, four great-grandchildren Allison Holochwost, Sage Amos, Slade Amos and Victor Alonzo. Don also leaves his sisters Jesse Colburn, Tommie Dennison, Paulette (Polly) Allen, brother Charles (Charlie) Wanamaker and sweetheart FeFe Earleen Joiner.
With deep gratitude the family offers thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at Baptist Medical Center for all the care, compassion and support given to Don and his family.
Don, it is with heartfelt thanks and gratitude for all the laughs, love, wisdom and support you gifted us with throughout your lifetime that we release you to fly home on the wings of love. Rest in peace, dear one.
The family will receive friends at 10:00am at the funeral home prior to the service. A funeral service will be held Monday, July 8th, 2019 at 12:00pm at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home with Rachel Alonzo officiating. Interment will be in Hawthorne Cemetery, Hawthorne, Florida.
