Raymond J. Burner 96 of Toms River passed away on Sunday July 7th. Raymond was born in Newark, NJ to Camille and Mary Burner. He grew up and attended school in Newark. He resided in Jersey City and Middletown, where he raised his family, before retiring and moving to Toms River in 1988. As a teenager he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC.) He served in the Navy during WWII. Upon receiving his honorable discharge he attended technical school. He worked for various toy companies including Mattel, achieving the position of design engineer. After retirement he continued to work as a school bus driver for Murphy Transportation. Ray enjoyed and participated in many sports throughout his lifetime including boxing, semi pro baseball and weightlifting. He also coached baseball for many years for the Lincoln Park Little League. In his 50s he took up running and was a fixture at local races into his late 80s. He also loved watching his favorite teams the Jets and Yankees. Raymond instilled his love of fitness and sports in his children and grandchildren. He is predeceased by his first wife of 50 years Frances (Lettieri) and his sister Violet. He is survived by his current wife of 20 years Tetyana , his sisters MaryAlice Kennedy and June Fleig, his children Raymond and Wanda Burner, Bob and Judi Burner, Rich and Sandy Burner and Nicole and Rob Maxton, as well as his grandchildren Robert, Raymond, Richie, Eric, Carlie, Justin and Olivia. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project would be appreciated. Feel free to toast him with a Ballantine ale.
