Andro was born in Zagreb, Croatia on September 7, 1979 to Terezija (Mirkovic) and Andelko Berkovic.
In 2003, Andro came to America to follow his career path as a network engineer. He worked with Danone Inc, formerly White Wave Foods, for 15 years and traveled extensively across the United States implementing systems across their dairy plants.
After thoroughly wining, dining, and romancing his Canadian sweetheart, Andro proposed to Heather Higgins at Au Noir restaurant in Toronto, a dining in the dark experience. True to form, he managed to effortlessly put a ring on her finger in pitch darkness while she was fumbling for cutlery. It wasn’t until later that she saw he had engraved, “You are weird” - the standard response he gave to her “I love you” – into the inner face of her ring. They were married on October 29 2018 in the Longmont Court House, witnessed by dear and intimate friends.
Andro indulged in a variety of hobbies, including fencing, diving, traveling, skydiving, tango dancing, singing, cooking, computer gaming and riding motorcycles. His generosity was unparalleled; no one ever left his home hungry and he never refused a call for help, no matter the hour nor the need. He would utter dire imprecations at anyone who dared to reach for the check at a restaurant. He loved the word widdershins. He preferred Latin literature to Greek, though he could recite Homer and Sappho from memory. Though it was his fourth, he took great pride in knowing the English language better than most native speakers. He was a very creative person and took on learning woodworking, blacksmithing and leatherwork. He was a skilled swordsman with major achievements in modern and historic fencing, and well-fitting leather pants loomed large in his legend. He was a fierce and loyal friend, collecting people from all walks of life into his heart and creating an amazing network of chosen family here in America to add to his extensive family back in Europe.
Surviving Andro are his wife Heather from Canada, his parents from Croatia, his sister Buga Berkovic
(Juan Martinez-Barrio) and nephew Marin from the Canary Islands, Spain. He is further survived by his in-laws (Ivy, Alyshia [Stuart], Kenny [Bree], and Paul [Laura]), numerous cousins, other extended family members and beloved friends around the world.
Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services. Celebration of Life to follow.
