Maxine Conaway Wilkes, age 82, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on July 9, 2019. Maxine was born October 6, 1936, in Montgomery County, Georgia. She graduated from Toombs Central High School before attending Brewton Parker where she graduated with an Associate’s Degree.
Maxine married the love of her life, Emory Paul Wilkes on July 4, 1959. She had a long successful career as an accounting supervisor for Commercial Union Insurance and Carolina Casualty Insurance. Maxine enjoyed traveling with friends, playing the slots and eating her beloved Butter Pecan ice cream.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Wilkes; parents, Acie and Edna Hammock Conaway; and sisters, Betty Riner and Jeri Craft. She is survived by her daughter, Monica Wilkes Edenfield (Joseph); grandson, Joseph Paul Edenfield; sisters, Judy Phillips and Alice Mosley; and special friend, Jere Thomas.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, July 13, 2019 from 4:00 – 6:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 14 at 2:00pm with burial to follow. All services will be held at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32205. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maxine’s honor to Lake Shore UMC Handbells Choir, 2246 Blanding Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32210.
