Jimmie Louis Brooks, 89, passed on Friday August 2, 2019 at Haven Hospice Orange Park following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was a resident of Orange Park and spent the last two years in the loving care of the staff at Allegro Senior Residence. He was born in Wichita, Kansas on November 13, 1929. He attended Wichita High School North. Following high school be began a 25 year career in the United States Navy where he reached the rank of Chief. Following his Navy retirement he spent the next 20 years of his life with the U.S. Post Office.
During his life he was a member of many prestigious organizations which included being a Lifetime Member of Wichita Kansas Masonic Lodge 99, The American Legion Post 0250 in Middleburg Florida, the VFW Middleburg, and the Fleet Reserve Association. He also spent a number of years volunteering at Community Hospice. He had a great passion for the American Indian and spent his life improving their lives.
He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Louise Brooks, 4 daughters: Kristi Dumas, Suzanne Bennett, Patrice Maxwell, and Louise Donaldson, 15 grandchildren, his faithful dog Shadow, and many close friends. He was predeceased by two sons: Richard and Mark Brooks and his brother Ken Brooks.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Rivermead Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL 32073. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Rivermead Funeral Home, with the family receiving guests at 10:00am. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at Holly Hill Memorial Park, and will be followed by a Gathering and Reception at Holly Hill Funeral Home, 3601 Old Jennings Rd., Middleburg FL 32068.
