Dr. Ross M. Galvin, retired medical doctor and beloved spouse of Patricia Gail Galvin, died on July 13, 2017. He is survived by Patricia G. Galvin, 3730 14th Ave SE #229, Olympia, WA 98501, as well as three sons, John Galvin (Nancy), Dale Galvin (Mary), Bruce Galvin (Robin), five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one sister, Marsha Hagland. He was predeceased by four siblings. Ross and Pat celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on June 13th of this year. Dr. Galvin was born and grew up in Centralia, WA to a pioneering family. His grandfather founded the town of Galvin northwest of Centralia. Dr. Galvin graduated from Centralia High School in 1936 and Centralia College in 1938 (one of the oldest graduates at his death). He then graduated from University of Washington and earned his MD at the University of Louisville Medical School in 1943. He interned at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, followed by 2 years in the Army during World War II. He came back to Centralia and setup his medical practice in 1946. He served as physician and surgeon for the next 35 years retiring in December 1981. He was one of the original partners and builders of the Centralia Medical Center. Dr. Galvin was very involved with Boy Scouts through the Tumwater Boy Scout Council for over 20 years. He earned the distinguished service Silver Beaver award. He participated in local Rotary Club, Masons, Shriners and member of the United Methodist Church. During retirement Dr. Galvin took up woodcarving and pen/ink drawing in his last few years. He won many blue ribbons at woodcarver shows. He was a very talented artist. He was very proud of his work and would gladly share his accomplishments. He and Pat during his work years were world travelers and most of their retirement spent four to five months in Arizona in their motor home or park model. They enjoyed their motor home trips with the local Good Sam RV Club. Dr. Galvin was a very dedicated servant to his patients and a devoted father to his family. He will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Dr. Ross M. Galvin will be held at 2pm on Monday, July 31st, 2017 at the Olympia: First United Methodist Church, located at 1224 Legion Way SE, Olympia, WA 98501 (360-943-2661). Memorials can be given to; Cardio Research at University of Washington, Centralia College and Olympia: First United Methodist Church.
