Funeral services for Joseph L. Stickney, age 68 of Heuvelton, will be held at 5:00pm on Friday (Aug 16, 2019) at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with his niece Stephanie Hutchins officiating. Calling hours will be held also on Friday from 2:00pm to the time of the funeral. Reception to follow at the Ogdensburg Moose Lodge. Mr. Stickney passed away on Monday (Aug 12, 2019) following a motor vehicle accident.
Surviving is his loving wife Fran; three sons Chad (Tina) Stickney of W. Chazy, Shawn Stickney & his companion Doris Smith of Peru and James Bertrand & his companion Ashley Elliott of Ogdensburg; a daughter Kimberly Stiles & her companion Matt Bottar of Ogdensburg; his beloved grandchildren Emma Axtell, Marisol Bertrand, Maddie Varney, David, Joanna & Timothy Stickney and Makayla Suddard; a great-granddaughter Jenna Elizabeth Stickney; two brothers John (Judy) Stickney of New London NC, Herbert (Lois) Stickney of Niskayuna NY; two sisters Linda Wilson of Reno NV and Sandra (Al) Hutchins of Rotterdam NY; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joe was born on May 8, 1951 in Malone NY, a son of the late Herbert & Jean (Herbert) Stickney. He graduated from Chateaugay High School, and later was enlisted in the US Navy from October 1969 to October 1975. A prior marriage to Alba Goodell ended, and he later was remarried to Frances Kennedy on August 22, 1986.
Joe worked as a mason for 40 years and became a federal corrections officer in 1974 until 1978. He then became employed with Anchor Freight Motors for four years prior to joining the NYS Corrections Department in 1982, where he worked until he retired in 2014.
He was a member of the Golden Oldies Antique Car Club, and enjoyed playing basketball in High School, going to garage sales, collecting antiques especially cars and clocks, crafts, traveling, watching NASCAR, socializing with friends, but mostly spending time with family.
