Mom was born in Glenora Falls, Cape Breton, on September 21, 1929. She had 12 siblings (eight brothers and four sisters). She is survived by her brother, Stanley Beaton ( Micheline) and her sister, Monica Beaton (John Dan).
Mom and Dad had nine children: Alex ( Ann), Anita ( David), Donald ( deceased) , Patricia ( Terry), Francis ( Abelina), Ray (Cathy), Stanley (Charlotte), Gary and Dennis. She dearly loved and was loved by her 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
While caring for her five younger siblings due to her mom passing away at age 47, Mom completed her Nova Scotia teaching license and became a member of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union. She taught at the Glenora School before marrying her beloved husband,
Donald D. Cameron of Riverville.
Mom worked tirelessly all her life taking care of family. She was an excellent cook, every table was filled with the best of homemade food from the farm including cheese and curds, butter, pickles, beets, biscuits, bread, farmed beef, chicken and pork. We can't remember a meal without homemade cheese and biscuits, a beautiful dessert made from jars of preserves, and cookies and squares.
Mom looked forward every summer to her much loved Ontario and New Brunswick families arriving home to enjoy Cape Breton music snd fresh seafood and homemade cheese and fiddle and piano music played by family and friends.
Mom loved to bowl in earlier years and play cards at home and at the Mabou Hall. Mom and Dennis were always a team at the card games.
In later years, mom was employed by the Strathlorne Tree Nursery for about eleven years.
The family are forever grateful to our youngest brother Dennis for his constant love and devotion and patience with mom, especially in the last year's of her life. His never-ending kindness and caring ways meant everything to mom and to the family. As mom said in her last days when she spoke about Dennis " we were buddies"
The family would like to thank Inverness County Home Support and Continuing Care, the ICU medical staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and the medical staff at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital especially Dr. Jean MacLaughlin and Dr. Susie Egar, the paramedics and nursing staff for their professionalism and thoughtfulness to mom in her last days. We feel truly blessed to have a local hospital with such a kind and caring staff.
Thanks to Lori Ann And Paulette for their heartfelt support with palliative care and to Fr Danny MacLennan for bringing mom the sacrament of the sick and a blessing for the family. These were special moments that we will never forget.
Mom, from age 17 when your mother passed away and you were left to care for your five younger siblings and later through the years caring for dads elderly parents and your nine children, your life was a life of love and service to family.
We will surely miss having you in our lives..
