Klaus Dieter Martinez, age 47, of Live Oak, Texas passed away in his home after a long illness on Wednesday September 4, 2019. He is survived by his mother, Maria Griffith; his sister, Christina Grinie and brothers Mario, Henry and Michael. He is predeceased by his father, Ramon; grandmothers, Maria Hessmer and Vicenta Acosta, and his namesake, Uncle Klaus Potenz.
Klaus was born in La Paz, Bolivia on October 23, 1971 and graduated Judson High School in 1990. He joined the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Corporal in the Logistics Field before receiving an Honorable discharge in 1994. He obtained his Information Management Degree from IT Technical Institute and worked for various IT companies before making Rackspace his final career choice. He worked as a Windows Administrator, Content Strategist and finally, as a Technical Writer.
Klaus was a devoted son, a loyal brother, and a steadfast friend. He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, backpacking, hunting and was quite the marksman with both the pistol and rifle. He was a problem solver who took on the difficult and usually unwanted projects at work and around the house. He moved close to home and took care of his mother whenever she needed him. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. He is now with our Heavenly Father in His arms receiving his love.
A visitation for Klaus will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd, Universal City, Texas 78148. A funeral service will occur Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 9:30 AM, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd, Universal City, Texas 78148. A graveside service with military honors will occur Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 11:30 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
