Gloria S. Davis, age 84 of Ogdensburg and formerly of California and Africa, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2019 surrounded by her family. Surviving is her son Mark Burrows of England; two daughters Karen (Ron) Wallwork of Devon, England and Barbara Hohban (Cletus Power) of Ottawa, Ontario; grandchildren David, Michelle, Jennifer & Michael Burrows of South Africa and Natalie (David), Amanda & Katelyn Hohban of Ottawa, Ontario.
Gloria was born on April 30, 1935 in Birmingham, England, a daughter of the late Leslie & Dorothy “Doris” (Lovell) Davis. She graduated from Greenmore College in England and later married Michael J. Burrows on February 21, 1953 in Africa.
Gloria was English through and through with a love of tearooms, good cups of tea and delicious cake. She enjoyed ancestorial homes, art, the opera, and classical music. She loved books and was an avid reader of historical fiction and biographies. She loved her many pets and always had a soft touch for rescuing strays when living in Africa and California.
She began her career at the British Consulate in Africa, later leaving the workforce to raise her family. Years later she returned to work at Aetna Casualty Insurance as an Underwriter in San Bernardino, California. Gloria qualified in law at Riverside University in California and progressed professionally where she taught others in bond management. She retired in 1996 and moved to New York State in 2002.
Determination of spirit and her wit will be long remembered, along with her generosity.
