Peggy Sandberg Steger, age 93, passed away on October 21, 2019 in Jacksonville Florida. She was sharing the love and devotion she lived by, to the moment she left this world and moved on to Heaven to be with her Savior and her loving husband.
Peggy's life was one of living for others. She had a happy marriage of 34 years to Hank Steger. After working for Southern Bell, she raised three daughters: Deb Lightfoot, Carole Taylor, and Terri Urtel and five grandchildren: Josh Lightfoot, Kristi Rothlein, Lauren Russer, Hannah Taylor, and Tyler Urtel. She also enjoyed her five great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful homemaker and neighbor whose home was a welcoming place for young people for many years. Later in her life, her home was also a welcome place for the "Red Hat" ladies. Peggy's time was spent in service in her church, Southside Baptist Church through nursery work, various committees, Habijax and Homebound ministries. One of her greatest loves and accomplishments was her work with the Girl Scouts. In her thirty years as a leader in Scouting, she loved the girls and taught us the meaning of leadership, kindness and service. She received many awards, including their highest honor of service. She was able to show the wonders of the world to so many young women as she took them on trips internationally as well as the simple weekends in Florida campgrounds. She will always be missed and loved by so many.
Peggy grew up and lived her life here in Jacksonville, Florida. She was the youngest of five children of William M. Sandberg and Mildred M. Sandberg with siblings William Sandberg, Margrit Labeck, Norman Sandberg, and Fred Sandberg. She graduated from Fletcher High school in 1944.
