Leonard Alvin Pederson, 71, of Calgary, Alberta, loving husband of the late Agnes Johanna (Bälten) Pederson passed away in the afternoon on Sunday, October 20, 2019 after a year long battle with cancer.
Len, as known by his friends, was born on July 17, 1948, to Levi and Beatrice (Fifield) Pederson in Rocky Mountain House, the third born of eight children.
Raised on the family farm outside of Mantario, Saskatchewan, Len spent his formative years canning and baking alongside his mother or working the fields with his dad harvesting crops and herding cattle.
Len graduated from Eaton High School in 1968. His farm to fork passion for culinary arts lead him to receive his diploma for Professional Cooking from SAIT in 1974.
Destined for a career in hospitality, Len worked as a chef for over 40 years; establishing his reputation at the Crowchild Motor Inn during his 22-year tenure at the hotel.
On May 3, 1975, Leonard married his eternal love, Agnes, of Aachen, Germany after a whirlwind courtship. Over the next 30 years of marriage, they raised their son, Jason, competed on who prepared better German meals, danced to Elvis and Neil Diamond, revelled in the adventures of road trip vacations, and enjoyed tranquil moments gardening together.
Leonard was preceded in death by his wife, his parents; step-daughter, Marilyn; brother Virgil and sister Hazel.
He is survived by their son, Jason (Chelsey); grandchildren, Kiefer, Declan and Leia; step-daughter, Ashley; step-granddaughter, Sarah; brothers, Arnold and Brian; sisters, Miriam, Anita and Bernice (Cory); numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and his dear friend, Hasna.
A Memorial Service to jointly honor Len and Agnes will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made out to either or both of their names to the Canadian Cancer Society.
