Jeff attended Cave Spring High School and later attended Radford University to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Jeff worked for many years as an operations dispatcher, employed by Maersk Incorporative, before retiring due to disability. Jeff’s disability was caused by Huntington’s Disease, an inherited brain disorder that causes the degeneration of nerve cells in the brain. HD affects a person’s functional abilities and usually results in movement, cognitive, and psychiatric disorders.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Stephanie R. “Steph” Cooke; sons, Adam and Ryan Cooke; dog, Rambo “Ram” Cooke; Uncle, Robert “Bobby” Cooke and wife Brenda; Aunt, Julia Lee Peters and husband Jasper, cousins, Bobbie Jo Lee and Crystal Peters and their children; mother-in-law Joyce “Nana” Kirk; sister-in-law Melissa McPhail and husband John, nephews Christian, Matthew, Mitchell, and Luke McPhail. Special friends; Greg and Kay Loveland, Tim and Cindy Bower, Rick and Laura Rogers, Patrick and Arianne Chapman.
Family and friends will always remember him as Superman starting the day of our first Hope Walk to help fundraise for HDSA with him leading the way and he said that he felt like superman with the amount of love and support he had backing him up. He is our Hero and an inspiration to all with his love of life and determination to never give up. Jeff was always active even up until the end of his life and would give everything to go walking and or something else adventurous. He enjoyed working outside, woodworking, hiking, motorcycles, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends. He had a heart of gold and always had a smile for everyone.
The Cooke family would like to give a sincere thank you to Dr. Brian Devine & staff, Dr. Francis Walker & staff, and Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte & his nurse Vicki Castellucci, for taking such exceedingly good care of Jeff and treating him with kindness and compassion.
