COLUMBIA – Vance E. Probst, 64, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, January 13, 2020 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Vance was born May 15, 1955 to the late Edgar and Josephine Harrell Probst in Visalia, California.
Vance grew up on his family farm in Farmersville, California. He graduated 8th grade from Outside Creek Elementary School in a class of 13 students. He went on to Exeter High School and College of the Sequoias where he enjoyed playing basketball. He learned drafting while in college and worked for over 40 years in steel construction, manufacturing, and engineering. For the past 27 years he has worked for Thermal Engineering in Columbia, South Carolina.
He was a wonderful home chef and shared his love for his family through many great meals and fun memories. He was a long-time member of the Tuesday Night Mixed bowling league and enjoyed many lasting friendships.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Probst; his stepdaughter, Elizabeth Dorsey; grandchildren, William Greer, Anastasia Elson, Jacqueline Dorsey, Vada Heath, Tanis Dorsey, Victoria Dorsey; his sister, Sharline Kelley, his brother, Vincent Probst; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
