James Diehl went home to be with His Lord on Wednesday, January 8, 2020. He was born in Heights Hospital; Houston, Texas, and remained a loyal Houstonian all of his sixty years of life.
James was the only child of Glen and Patsy Diehl and the first grandson of Buck and Mildred Buchanan. He was a longtime member of Baptist Temple in the Heights and a graduate of Scarborough High School. After graduation, he attended Blin Junior College for several years.
He became the proud father of now grown daughters, Ariel and Katia. He loved them dearly and they knew it. He also leaves behind his fiance, Joey Clemmons, who has been an enormous help to the Diehl family in these last months of James’s illness.
James filled his life with Christian music, singing with all of the children’s choirs that Baptist Temple had to offer. In his college years he sang with a choral group at Blin as well. He considered it an honor to sing at family weddings and funerals, a ministry of music that was requested often through the years.
In his mature years, James was an ordained minister who loved to preach in a prison ministry that he was a part of. As an active member of the Gideons, James proudly provided a Bible to anyone who would accept it.
James’s favorite sport was tennis. He loved watching it played professionally, and he often played the game himself. He also had a large supply of baseball memorabilia that he carefully collected. One of the hobbies James loved the most was simply working in a flower garden, planting the colorful flowers, and watching the blooms appear.
In the working world, he most enjoyed his many years at HP.
He will be greatly missed by his loving family, friends, hospice group, and his church. Heaven is richer because James is there with the Lord and with His Saints.
His remembrance services will start this weekend with visitation at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home on I45 at Rankin, 13102 North Freeway, on Sunday, January 12, 2020, from 3:00 -- 5:00 pm. His funeral service will be held on Monday, January 13, at 10:00 am at the same address. Please join in consistent prayer for his parents, children, and extended family who will deeply miss James’ presence in their lives.
