Robert Lee Stebbing, passed away in his sleep at his home on Thursday, January 2, 2020 in Milton, Florida. He was born on June 17, 1928 to Elwynne Lincoln Stebbing and Jane Morrow Scott in Baltimore, Maryland.
He was known as “Bobby” while he was growing up and “Bob” during his adult years. Bob served in the National Guard of Maryland (1947 – 1949), Detachment “B” 213th Air Service Group.
In January 1950, Bob left his home in Baltimore to serve full time, for two years, as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern California Mission. It was at the missionary training home in Salt Lake City where Bob met his future sweetheart and wife, Elsie Isabella Bird. Elsie was preparing to serve a one-and-a-half-year mission for the same church in the California Mission.
On February 14, 1952, Bob and Elsie were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. They chose to make their home and raise their family in Baltimore, Maryland. Together they had eight children: Evelyn Bird (Harold) Eaves, Stanley Elwynne Stebbing, David Lee Stebbing, Scott William (Kim) Stebbing, Ramona Lee (David) Aitken, Jeanette Lee (Steven) Farrell, Rebecca Lee Stebbing and Edwin Egon (Denise) Stebbing.
Dad’s posterity included 8 children, 30 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Elsie; his baby daughter, Rebecca; grandchildren Micah and Jesselyn Eaves; and great-granddaughter Samantha Emmons. Also, his siblings that previously passed on are, William, Donald and Richard Stebbing. Bob has one living sister, Phyllis (Fred) Garcia, who resides in Mesa, Arizona.
Dad was affectionately referred to as Fatherman by his loved ones. Professionally he was a master carpenter, electrician and plumber. Always looking to enrich himself, Fatherman was self-taught in Hebrew, architecture and drafting. He was also quite the poet and artist in his younger adult years. Word is that Dad tried to woo Mom over with his poetry while they were both serving their missions.
Mom and Dad taught their children that no one is beneath you as we are all equal in our Father in Heaven’s eyes. Fatherman will be missed until the time comes for both he and Mom to greet each of one of us. Rest in peace Dad.
The family wishes to thank all the wonderful people who have watched over and cared for Dad throughout his aging life and prepared him to enter eternal life.
