Born on December 7, 1927 in Lynn, she was the cherished daughter of the late Jeremiah W. and Lillian M. (Andrews) Gainey. Lillian attended Lynn English High School, graduating with the Class of 1945. Following graduation, Lillian received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She had a desire for knowledge and taught elementary school at the Captain William Shoemaker School for 27 years.
She lived an active life full of activities like swimming, practice yoga, traveling, attending the movies and being a member of the Golden Girls of Lynn. However, Lillian’s greatest passion of all was spending time with her 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Lillian is survived by her children Lynne Cunningham of Amesbury; Jeanne McMenimen and her husband David of Marblehead; Cheryl Carden and her husband Stephen of West Haven, CT; John E. Thibodeau and his wife Susan of Lexington; and Mary White of Salem; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her sisters Geraldine Donahue and Kathryn M. McManus.
Lillian’s visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Her funeral mass will follow at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, Swampscott. Interment will be at Swampscott Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to be made in Lillian’s name to the Brooksby Village Student Scholarship Fund, 100 Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody, MA. 01960.
