Maria R. Banda de Zertuche, 77, graduated to her new life in eternity heaven on February 13, 2020 in Houston, Texas. Her funeral service will be held this Wednesday and Thursday at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston, Texas.
Maria was born on 09/14/1943 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, to Pedro and Gudelia Banda. Her father, Pedro, was the founder and builder of a village named "Ejido de las Blancas" which is located outside the city limits of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Maria is one of 7 children and is survived by her older brother, Meliton Banda. The Lord blessed her with 4 children: Alvaro Zertuche; Norma Martinez; Antonio Zertuche; Alberto Zertuche; and 9 grandchildren: Matthew Zertuche; Cristian Zertuche; Victoria Zertuche; Antonio Zertuche, Jr.; Milena Zertuche; John Martinez; Veronica Martinez; Michelle Martinez; and Natalie Martinez.
Maria received her bachelors degree in Accounting in Mexico and worked as an accountant for a company in Mexico before she became a full-time wife and mother at the age of 25. She lived most of her life in Houston, Texas but loved traveling back to Mexico every opportunity she was given. Her hobbies included gardening and buying/selling products from different parts of Mexico and reselling them in Houston.
The Lord blessed her with the "the true heart of a servant". She was once asked by her eldest son, Alvaro, what brought her the most joy in life, and she replied by saying "serving others".
She was, and still is, deeply loved by hundreds of family members and friends. She touched so many lives here on earth with her love, compassion, kindness, and joy. The biblical verse that comes to my mind when I think of my mother is found in Hebrews 13: 1-2:
"Let brotherly love continue. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels."
Because now when I think of my mother and think on how she lived her life, I truly believe and I'm convinced she was an "earth angel". I did some research recently on the topic of angels and learned there is actually 2 different categories of angels in existence. There are "heavenly angels", which are spirit beings whom serve God here on earth, and also travel back and forth from heaven to earth on missions from God. And then there are "earth angels" whom are also spirit beings whom live in human bodies, temporarily, and serve God here earth. And these are the most loving kinds of people we meet here on earth, such as my mother exemplified.
We love you sweet mother, may you now rest in peace in eternity heaven.
