Lloyd married my mom, Rosemary Carpenter, in July 1994 in an intimate ceremony at First Baptist Church of Independence. They met at a round dance and soon became friends sharing their common loss of respective spouses after 43 years of marriage each.  Lloyd and Rose lived life to the fullest dancing, dining out, attending local performances and musicals, the Kansas City Zoo, traveling, gardening, and doing home repairs.  They loved to travel in the US and abroad.  Lloyd’s favorite trips abroad were to Russia where they were hosted by a family and dined in their home and Costa Rica, where they enjoyed walks in the jungle spying poison-dart frogs and monkeys.  They also enjoyed trips to Arizona, South Carolina, Washington and many other states.  They took each of the grandkids on a trip when they turned 13; Austin to Washington DC and Gabrianne to Boston.

Lloyd lovingly treated Phil, Rose’s adult son with special needs, as his own son.  They included Phil  in many of their adventures, and we all were touched by Lloyd’s love and acceptance.  Phil loved going to Branson and Lloyd bought a time-share so they would have a nice place to stay with a pool so Phil could swim. 

Lloyd and Rose were married almost 17 years at her passing, enjoying companionship, active living, and entertaining each other along each adventure. Rose would say on their long driving trips that she would tell him jokes to keep him awake.  We are grateful that Lloyd loved mom deeply, would do anything and everything to bring her happiness and that together they lived  life beyond what either of them thought possible.

Mom always enjoyed taking him a hershey’s chocolate bar when we would visit Grandma Beulah. It always put a smile on his face.  Hugs and prayers to the family.  RIP Uncle Llyod.

Lloyd was a good, close friend of mine during the years we shared at First Baptist Church of Independence, MO.   Each Sunday we would visit and share stories and experiences.  When he moved to Iowa I immediately missed him.
I will continue to miss him and his friendship but I’ll pleasantly remember all the good times  we shared.   My sincere sympathy and prayers are with all of Lloyd’s family and friends.

Uncle Lloyd was more than a Uncle.  He walked me down the aisle on my wedding day, taking the place of my dad that passed away four years earlier.
Uncle Lloyd and Aunt Louise were always there for me and my family.  I have so many happy memories.  Uncle Lloyd had a great sense of humor and always had a great story to tell.  I remember the day he brought his brand new Thunderbird car to show us and ask if I wanted to drive it.  That was so cool!!
He was the best!  I will miss him so much!


Uncle Lloyd was a man that could always be depended on by his friends and family. Many happy times were spent with him and Aunt Louise growing up. He was always there when his family needed him and always was kind and honest when giving out advice, he will be missed.

Uncle Lloyd was one of the best people I ever met! You always knew you were loved. Gentle and fun and a great host whenever we would visit whether in Des Moines or Blue Springs. He and Aunt Louise always showed us the best times and served the best food. My most memorable time was during NCAA basketball when Drake was in the final four and we greeted them at the airport... what a great time! I know he will be missed by so many loved ones. RIP Uncle Lloyd. Thank you for touching my life and leaving memories with my family... kids still reminisce.
