Dorothy Virginia Dertina was born in Albertville, Alabama at the height of the Great Depression on January 26th, 1933 to her parents, Grace Sanders and Clark Ellis Peppers. She had 5 brothers and sisters Aleen Bright, Christine Bright, Charles Peppers, Sam Peppers and Helen Bartleson. She was married to Richard Dertina for 45 years and they lived facing Lake Arbor in Arvada, Colorado for their entire marriage.
Dorothy had 3 children, Bonnie Prunk, Cary Hilsman and Kohra Ann Hilsman, two stepchildren – Rick Dertina and Ginette Dertina, six grandchildren - Joell Nguyen, Jason Hilsman, Matthew Hilsman, Katie Hilsman, Jennifer Evans and Julie Romanovsky and seven great grandchildren – Hailey Nguyen, Kaitlyn Nguyen, Elijah Nguyen, Austin Nguyen, Taylor Evans, Benjamin Romanovsky and William Romanovsky and one great-great-grandchild, Violet Gordon.
She died peacefully in the company of family on March 16th, 2020. She was preceded by her parents Clark and Grace Peppers, her daughter Kohra Ann Hilsman, her sisters Aleen and Christine, her brother Charles and her grandson Matthew Hilsman.
In consideration of the Coronavirus, Private Service will be March 24th at The Pavilion at Crown Hill Cemetery followed by Private Committal at Fort Logan on March 24th.
Dorothy was a humble, gentle spirit who dearly loved her family and had the heart of a servant. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures and in her relationship with her Heavenly Father. She enjoyed her daily walks around the lake and her time at work – working until the age of 85. Her family treasured her Godly wisdom, love for the Broncos and her funny sense of humor. She lovingly cared for Richard and loved to do for others. Her homemade cakes were legendary, and she even baked her own birthday cake to share with her family.
