Phil was born Jan. 4, 1936 in Muskegon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked in office furniture manufacturing at E.H. Sheldon. He married Betty Lou Mahn on May 25, 1956. Phil loved coaching his son’s football teams, enjoyed camping with family, and was a bus driver for Holy Trinity for special needs adults. He was a member of the VFW in North Muskegon, the Twin Lake Gun Club (where he loved shooting guns), enjoyed watching old John Wayne Movies, going out to Sunday breakfast with family, and could be found gathering with good friends Tom M., Ed, Jim M. and the rest of the gang in his spare time.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Millie Stenberg, Sylvia “Silver” Hurford Stenberg; his son Rick Stenberg; and 2 brothers Tony Stenberg and Bob Goodnough.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Lou; children Rodney (Robin) Stenberg, and Vicki (Thomas) Finkler; daughter-in-law Jill (Greg Lamphere) Stenberg; 7 grandchildren, Cody Stenberg, Tyler Stenberg, Josh (Danielle) Stenberg, Jared (Carey) Stenberg, Stephanie (who was born on his birthday) (Ken) Jones, Kristen Finkler, and Brooke Finkler; 14 great grandkids; his dog Max; a brother Lenny Stenberg; many extended family and friends.
A private graveside service will be 1:00pm Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
