Pamela Ann Howerton (63), of Midway, WV passed away on May 7, 2020 at The Bower’s Hospice House in Beckley, WV from complications of a stroke. In respect for everyone’s safety, the family will have a private funeral and burial service for Pam. A celebration of Pam’s life will be held for friends and colleagues at a later date.
Pam made her entrance into the world on September 1, 1956 in Beckley, WV to Jack and Iris (Helvey) Eller.
Pam grew up in Midway, WV. She graduated from Sophia High School in Sophia, WV in 1974. Pam was active in high school as she participated in many after school activities including cheer. After high school, Pam was employed in administrative services at Raleigh General Hospital. Pam ended her employment and chose to be a stay at home mom for several years. Pam was very creative and talented in the kitchen baking and designing festive cakes. Using these talents and skills, she began her own catering company called Quality Catering. She continued this successful business several years before accepting a position with Kroger. Pam continued her employment with Kroger for 31 years until her retirement in January 2020 as the Deli Department Head. Pam was well-respected and admired for her leadership in and management of the deli.
Pam married the love of her life, Rick Howerton, in 2009 in Beckley, WV. They were happily married until Rick’s untimely death in 2015.
Pam enjoyed cooking, baking and making special treats for the neighborhood kids, friends and family. Her house was always the most popular house on the street during Halloween, as everyone stopped by for her incredible popcorn balls. Pam also loved gardening, white roses and hummingbirds. She enjoyed collecting churches, angels and religious figurines. Together, she and Rick spent time watching NASCAR racing and collecting NASCAR memorabilia. Her love of animals, especially dogs, was well-known by all. Pam was the most generous kind-hearted soul you would ever want to meet. She quietly, without the need for recognition, gave to many family, friends and strangers. Pam was a kind, gentle woman but was full of sass too! We all loved her sense of humor. Pam’s special qualities made it an honor to call her Mom, Mammie, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.
Pam was preceded in death by her proud father, Jack Eller in 2013, her loving husband, Rick, in 2015 and her beloved Yorkie, Tank, in 2019.
Pam is survived by her mother, Iris Eller, of Midway, WV; her daughter, Terra (James) Baker of Lewisburg, WV; her sister Debra (Dr. John) Martin of Lynchburg, VA; her special grandchildren Briana Adams (Pam was her guardian through high school years until her emancipation), Chelsie Baker and Hunter Baker; her cherished great-grandson, Ruger Davis; her nephew Dr. Matthew (Cari) Stover; her grandnieces Emma Stover and Charlotte Stover; and her pampered Boxer Socks (adopted by Cousin Mike Kinsley). Pam is also survived by many aunts and uncles, her special Uncle Sonny Helvey and many loving cousins, especially Penny Lilly, who mourn her loss, as we all do.
