dimple on his left cheek. Danny, as he was belovedly called, would light up a room with his
smile and make you smile too. To his friends and family, Danny was a big-hearted,
compassionate young person who lived life intensely. For his seven-year old little sister,
Destynee, Danny had a “kind heart, and he was funny too.” His infectious laughter made you
feel happy. When he greeted you with a hug and asked how you were doing, you felt he
genuinely cared about you.
Daniel Anthony Andrade was born in Bakersfield, California on June 2, 1998 to Araceli
Mendiola and Leonardo Daniel Andrade. As a young boy, he loved to run and play with his
cousins in Frazier Park. Grandpa Fernando would call him a “little bird” because he ran so fast,
which served him well when he played football later on in high school. As a three-year-old, he
would tell spooky stories on regular walks with his grandma and cousins. According to his
Grandma Angela, he was so serious that his cousins often believed him. In addition, his
cousins remember him for being a skilled skater. He liked to jump over stairs with his cousin
Nano and do the tray flip with his skateboard. Growing up, Danny cared for his pets, especially
his Dog Kilo and Yogi .
Danny attended El Tejon Elementary School. After moving to Bakersfield with his mom
and stepfather, David Medina, he went to Curran Middle School and later Frazier Mountain High
School. In his junior year, Dannny played running back for the school’s varsity football team.
He loved the sport and also played for the Central Youth Football League. In 2016, his family
was very proud to see him walk across the stage and graduate from West High School.
Danny could cheer you up by listening to him singing rap music or oldies in the car or
doing his shuffle dance. He also had a sense of style and loyalty to his sports teams. He
regularly wore his 501 jeans, sports jerseys, and his Dodgers, Lakers, or Steelers hats. He
loved to wear his neck chains with the Holy Cross or the Lord Jesus emblem, which he had on
the day of the accident when our Danny passed away.
Danny could not stay in one place for a long time. He enjoyed traveling and exploring
different places, especially those close to the ocean. After graduating from high school, he
moved to Oregon to work in the shrimp industry. He loved hiking along the waterfront. In his
short-lived life, Danny worked in several jobs. He labored in the fields, picking grapes and
garlic, and planting watermelons. He worked in car washes, painted homes, and did
construction work. He was known for being a hard-working employee.
To his close friends, he was known as “Papa,” and they describe him as loyal and
fearless. He cared for them, even when they disagreed. Before the fatal accident, Danny had
stopped at a store to buy a shirt for one of his friends and checked to see how his cousin Nick
was doing.
At home, Danny loved his family and was protective of his little sisters, Desaree and
Destynee. He loved his mom so much that he tattooed her name on his neck. Danny will be
missed deeply and will always be loved by his parents, sisters, brothers, tias, tios, cousins,
grandparents, and friends.
Danny Boy, we will always carry your beautiful spirit in our hearts.
