Jack enlisted in the Coast Guard on October 23, 1943. He served his country proudly during World War II, stationed in the Philippines. His field of expertise was Loran which was a long range navigation system used to locate ships. He received his honorable discharge on May 17, 1946.
Jack was a brick mason and started in the Bricklayers Local Union #1 with barely a $1 to his name. He helped build many buildings throughout Oklahoma City; including, Baptist Hospital and the VA Hospital on 13th Street. In his typical humor he humbly said he was the “best glazed tile man in the state.”
Jack had a passion for sports; especially OU football and Thunder basketball. He also enjoyed old Westerns, bowling, dancing, and traveling with his “kiddos”.
Jack passed from this life through the gates of glory at home, surrounded by family, on May 20, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Nelda (Elder) Freeman; sons, Drue Freeman and his wife Helen, Stephen Freeman and his wife, April; two grandchildren, Brad Freeman and his wife Christy, and Jenifer Freeman and her friend Tristan; three great-grandchildren: Kailyn and Joseph Freeman, and Trevor Coldwell; sister-in-law, Monna Ireland; two nieces, Cynthia Hughes and Staci Hensley; five great-nieces and nephews: Sam, Laurel, Olivia, Logan, and Emily; and many other family members and friends.
Jack was a good man with a good heart who dearly loved his family and friends. He will be missed.
