I lost my Karl on 6/24/2020 after 24 + years of wedded bliss. We were married in Vegas, on a Sunday night at 8:00pm on the Strip. That began a wonderful, intense, love that carried us through Karl's 5-year battle against Cancer.
Prior to his illness, Karl was a member of the New Braunfels Elks club, the Carousel Dance Club of which he served as President the year he learned he had Cancer, and the New Braunfels Protestant Church Choir. Not only did Karl have a lovely voice, he played the guitar in his youth in a dance band, and for his personal relaxation in his latter years.
We had a wonderful life together, for which I thank God. I will miss him daily, and pray I will see him again once I complete my journey on this earth. Rest in peace my Sweetpea.
He was the second child and only son of W.A.(Bill) and Vanita Lewis. Born and raised in Ada Oklahoma, he graduated Ada High School in 1959. He then furthered his education at East Central State College in Ada, where he graduated with a degree in English and Industrial Arts in 1964. He married Doreen E. Graham October 5, 1962 and had three children, Karl (K.D.) Jr., Darla and Kevin. He then taught industrial arts at the local high school in Hardtner, Kansas. He worked for Coop and Farmland Industries for several years in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Texas. He also worked for Terra serving agricultural customers in South Texas and Mexico. Later in life he married his loving wife Laurel A. Simpson on January 21, 1996. After that he went back to his passion of working with wood as a Master Carpenter and crafting exquisite works of art for several well known celebrities.
His first passion was fishing. Where ever there was a body of water, he would cast a line and always catch a fish. He was an avid outdoorsman and always preferred a walk in the woods over being in the city.
He finally succumbed to his long fight with cancer after beating it three times. He was a big man at 6'4" and will always remain larger than life to those that knew him.
Preceded in death by his parents W.A. and Vanita Lewis, his infant sister Patricia June Lewis, twin of Nova Gayle and Great Grandchild Flint Lewis. Survived by his wife Laurel, his children, Karl David Lewis Jr., Darla Renae Shelton (Jay) and Kevin Lynn Lewis (Amy). His grandchildren Karl David Lewis III (Selina), Richard Anthony Lewis (Vanessa), Jay Wylie Shelton, Wesley Graham Shelton, Elisabeth Grace Lewis and Kevin Wayne Lewis. Great Grandchildren, Lincoln Rocko Lewis and Owen Ryder Cornell. Also survived by two sisters, Nova Gayle Boyd (Harry) of Purcell Ok. and Karen Bell of Oklahoma City, Ok. Three nephews, Mike Carter, Steve Boyd and Chris Boyd.
A memorial service for Karl will be held Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, Texas.
