Tom was born in the Bronx, New York. The second child of James Thomas Murphy and Teresa Carhart Murphy. His brother James Donald Murphy preceded him in death.Tom was a graduate of All Hallows High School. He then graduated from Business school with an accounting degree. After serving for 2 years in the United States Army he began a 38 year career with Amoco Oil Company as an accounting manager. Tom married Dorothy McLaughlin in 1953 and raised their daughter Lynn in New York, Baltimore, and Snellville.
He is survived by his his wife Adi Murphy, daughter Lynn Wilson, son in-law Barry Wilson, grandchildren Lauren Wilson,Brian Wilson and Julie Wilson, and great granddaughter Madison. He is also survived by his sister in law Ruth Murphy , niece Patricia Murphy and nephew Richard Murphy. Tom was an outstanding athlete and once had a try out with the New York Yankees. Tom enjoyed a 38 year retirement and was truly blessed with many loyal friends.
In 1974, Tom was a founding member of Summit Chase Country Club in Snellville . Tom could always be found on the golf course or tennis courts up until age age of 88. He was know as a legend around Summit Chase, even having the honor of Tennis court #1 dedicated in his name. His dry sense of humor was appreciated by all who loved him. The family request that donations include Summit Chase County Club 3197 Classic Dr. Snellville, Ga. 30078 marked “Tom Murphy Memoriam”.
