With tender hearts, we share news of the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Jean (Hart) Myers. Jean died at home surrounded by her immediate family and embraced by the love of friends and extended family, seven months following an advanced cancer diagnosis.
Born in 1937, Jean was raised in Manchester, Guysborough County, by Murray and Maud (Callaghan) Hart. She trained as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Camp Hill Hospital and nursed at the Guysborough Hospital and the Halifax Civic Hospital before the births of her children. She then turned her attention to raising a family sustained by her love, fortified by her kindness, and strengthened by her patience. She was a supportive partner and best friend to her husband of 57 years, Ray Myers (Halifax), a deeply loving and engaged mother to Sharon Myers (Charlottetown) and Shelley Newman (Halifax), and a brilliantly proud and devoted grandmother to Mallory Newman (Halifax) and Ashleigh Newman (Charlottetown). We loved her deeply and have a lifetime’s comfort in knowing how deeply she loved us.
Jean volunteered in various school associations, as a Brownie and Girl Guide leader, and she had a longstanding involvement with the United Church Women (UCW) in Halifax, Milford, and at Trinity United Church, Timberlea, the latter the family’s home church for over forty years. She was an expert berry-picker, a passion and skill she honed since childhood, a much-applauded cook and baker, and a crafter extraordinaire. Many family members, friends, neighbours, and organizations benefited from her gifts of these kinds.
Jean was predeceased by her mother, Elva (Hart) Rose and brother Ronald Rose, and is survived by her much-loved brothers David Rose (Leslie) and Gordon Rose (Pat). A heartwarming collection of friends, Hart and Myers relatives, descendants, and in-laws spread across Nova Scotia and New Brunswick enriched her life and helped her to build beautiful and sometimes humorous memories.
