On Friday, July 24, 2020 the Saenz family lost their hero. Gilberto Garza Saenz entered into eternal rest, surrounded by his daughters, at a hospital in Kingsville, Texas at the age of 92. He was born on September 21, 1927 to Domingo Saenz, Sr. and Santos Garza Saenz in Falfurrias, Texas. After graduating high school, Gilbert joined the United States Army and served as an MP during WWII. After he returned, he worked as a Pipefitter for Brown and Root until his retirement. Gilbert was devoted to his family and a believer of the Lord.
Gilbert was welcomed into the gates of Heaven by the Lord and was reunited with his parents; siblings, Encarnacion Carrasco, Eliodoro Saenz, Maria Barrera, Domitila Medrano, Santos Perez and Rosa Pena; daughter, Maria Estela Zamora and grandchildren, Irma Linda Gutierrez and Benito “Jay” Gutierrez, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Aminta Chapa Saenz of Falfurrias, Texas; four daughters, Soila A. Nethery of San Antonio, Texas, Edna Gloria (William) Spurgeon of Odem, Texas, Elsa (Emede, Jr.) Canales of Corpus Christi, Texas, son -in- law, Florentino A. Zamora of Falfurrias, Texas and Anita (Damien) Carvalho of Corpus Christi, Texas; six brothers, Domingo (Maria) Saenz, Jr., of Tivoli, Texas, Fortino Saenz of Osceola, Indiana, Robert Saenz of Falfurrias, Texas, Jose Humberto Saenz of San Antonio, Texas, Pedro (Gerri) Cruz of Osceola, Indiana and Daniel Saenz of Falfurrias, Texas; three sisters, Rafaela (Arturo) Villarreal and Emma (Rodolfo) Vela both of Falfurrias, Texas and Juanita Bozarth of Corpus Christi, Texas; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias with Visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. and the services will conclude with a 2:00 p.m. Burial at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi.
