John Reagan Young

John Young, 69, of Denison, Texas passed away on July 30, 2020, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born to parents William Roland Young and Billie Ruth Young on March 16, 1951, in Dallas, TX. John graduated Bryan Adams high school where he was the Captain of the Golf Team. He also had a passion for history which he studied at East Texas State University. He was a proud member of the Sherman evening Lions Club and Board of Directors at the Red River Railroad Museum.

He married Lea, the love of his life on September 28, 2000, who survives him. John is also survived by his sister Barbara (Don) Lamb, his three sons Anthony, Bradley, and Chris, his 4 daughters Jamie, Katryna, Brittney, and Alaina, his brother in law Billy Alberts, as well as a host of grandchildren. John was predeceased by parents William Roland Young, Billie Ruth Young and Sister Sharon Elizabeth Young.

John was known for his love of the game. Golf, football, baseball, poker, miniature golf and many more. John’s passion for golf was passed down from his dad and is what grew his passion for sports. While competition and winning fueled John, he was the biggest sore loser when it came to fantasy football. Somehow year after year, despite endless simulations to perfect his approach, he would still lose and his wife would always win. Everyone knew the only thing he really cared about was the opportunity to bond with his sons each year.

We cannot forget John's passion for movies. He also obtained that passion from his father whose movie theaters John grew up in. John would watch every movie that came into theaters and was famous for his consistent Facebook movie reviews that were always profoundly insightful and if not incredibly sarcastic..

Anyone who knew John will immediately remember his unforgettable sense of humor which he passed down to his children. John could light up any room he walked into with his quick wit and banter. One thing John was always serious about was his consistent acts of service and selflessness. John was a coach for The Medallions girl’s softball team and the Cincinnati Reds boy’s baseball team where his children played. He later volunteered with various organizations to make a difference in his community. He was a mentor and confidant to many, and has touched countless lives throughout the years.

We will hold a celebration of life at a date yet to be determined due to the current health crisis. Details will be updated here and on social media as soon as they are available.
