He was born to Robert and Eleanor (Rakes) Smith in East Cleveland, Ohio on December 16, 1947. LeRoy went to Coronado High School and later graduated from Arizona State University and received his bachelors in agricultural sciences. He earned an Eagle Scout Badge from the Boy Scouts of America.
Leroy served in the United States Army as a paratrooper stationed in North Carolina through his commitment to the military. Following his time in the military, he began a career as a bareback rider and bull rider in the rodeo circuit and did an Oldtimers rodeo into his 40s. LeRoy was always a rowdy and fun-loving cowboy at heart. He spent his younger years up to mischief and enjoying life with his friends. LeRoy also raced sprint cars locally in Arizona at Manzanita Speedway. He retired later in life from a career in heavy duty automotive parts sales.
He was a larger than life personality and enjoyed spending the latter part of his life with his beloved, Debbie, at their Cabin in Payson, Arizona, going on hunting trips with his Son, camping trips and vacations with family and friends, and, spending as much time as there was in a day with his youngest granddaughter.
LeRoy was committed to Deborah Ward in life for 32 years, till his death. He is survived by his Son, Cody Smith (Tiffany Smith), Lisa Ward, and Nicole Smith. He was an amazing grandfather to Taylor Ward, daughter of Lisa Ward and Harper Smith, daughter to Cody Smith (Tiffany Smith).
