It is with great sadness that I announce the passing away of my beloved husband, Philip Alan Rothwell. Philip in his 74th year went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ. Philip was at home at the time of his passing.
Philip was born in 1946 in the city of St. Catharines, Ontario to his loving parents Alan Griffis Rothwell and Nodaine Rothwell (Mc Kerlie). Philip was an only child and was a very devoted son to his parents. Now they are together for eternity.
Philip was a gentle, kind, compassionate and caring man. A man with great dignity to all who knew him. Even though he was quiet, he had a wealth of knowledge stored inside of him. Philip graduated from Brock University with a BA in history and politics and later became the librarian at Brock, until he took early retirement to care for his aging parents. He was an avid reader and had a great interest for world history, especially WW1 and WW2. If you ever had a conversation with Philip, he sure had his facts straight!
Philip was a longstanding member of Queen Street Baptist Church remaining faithful until he and his wife were married, and they attended Glenridge Bible Church.
Philip enjoyed travelling to the east coast to visit his in-laws. He has two brothers-in-law’s, Charles Thomas Lavigne (Linda), and David Alan Lavigne (Estelle) and his mother-in-law, Sylvia Lavigne. He will be forever missed by them.
Philip had a longstanding friendship (since childhood) with his best friend Jack Mc Neil. Philip and Jack were just little tots when they attended Sunday School at Queen Street Baptist Church, where Jack’s mother was the Sunday school teacher. I want to sincerely thank-you Jack for always being there for Philip. He had great respect and admiration for you. Having you there as his best man and then being there at his end was a great comfort to me and I know Philip would have wanted that.
Philip is leaving behind his wife Sandra Rothwell, his two stepdaughters, Teisha and Jamie. As well as three grandchildren, Destiny, Matthias and Harper, whom he loved very much. They will miss their grandpa.
And now my darling husband Philip, I want to say that even though God called you home, I am and will always be your wife, your soulmate. Thank-you for loving me deeply and showing me what real love is. Until God calls me home you will always be in my heart. I will always respect and honor your name, my love.
Until we meet again, Love your wife Sandra.
Thank-you friends and family of Glenridge Bible Church for all your kindness, comfort, prayer, cards, flowers and food.
