Born April 3, 1964 in Morgantown, WV, David is survived by his wife Lachlan (Ivy) Bertaux of Savannah, GA; sons Anthony Joseph Bertaux of Raleigh, NC, and Nicholas James Bertaux of Morrisville, NC; parents JoAnn Fredrick Bertaux of Morgantown, WV, and David Joseph Bertaux and wife Janice of Sebring, FL; brothers, Mike Bertaux and wife Kim of Apex, NC, Brian Bertaux of Winchester, VA, and John Bertaux of Keller, TX; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews whom he loved deeply.
David was a 1982 graduate of Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, MD. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1986 from Frostburg State University in Frostburg, MD, and his master’s degree from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, in 1992. David had a lifelong passion for business and an entrepreneurial spirit, which led him to establish and operate a number of diverse small businesses. He also spent some of his business career as an investment advisor.
David’s love of life and people allowed him to touch all those around him. His bright blue eyes, infectious smile, and charitable heart attracted anyone who crossed his path. His passion for uplifting others was exhibited in everything that he did. If you met him once or knew him for years you could never forget his beautiful soul.
David spent much of his adult life in Apex, NC, where he and his first wife, Karen (Hinkle) Waggener, raised their sons. While in Apex, he was a parishioner at Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, where he served as a lector and taught Teen Youth Ministry. David spent many years and obtained great joy in coaching his sons’ youth sports teams, specifically basketball and soccer. In addition to the dedication to his church and youth sports, he was an active member of the Knightdale Lion’s Club where he participated in many of their charitable events. He never missed an opportunity to help others and many were blessed by his giving heart.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, September 11, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Apex, NC, with interment of ashes immediately following at Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Apex, NC, where he will rest eternally. Family and friends will be received immediately following the interment of ashes at MacGregor Downs Country Club, Cary, NC.
